I used the neighbors boys... and if they were going for pets, they had their horns and scent glands removed. My question is im in hawaii and we have year around temps above 32 by far is there anything hawaii specific i should know besides the temperature factor. Im in a very wet area not as wet as in the mountains since im more near the ocean but someone (in the mountains ) told me they gave up onvgoats hecause of ear kites annoying them too much and foot rot because of the wetness. Im starting to notice the sides of the hooves curl on the pure nubian. Any help will be appreciated. Godbless.

    I've kept sheep for 17 years. No issues with founder Until now I've been dealing with this with one of my rams He was born here 12 years ago - our first bottle baby. I didn't catch it quick enough and I doubt he'll come back from it. He's on Meloxicam and I have been icing his feet 2 x a day. Vet said if he's not better by two weeks, then it's time to put him down. He eats, but walking about is tricky and he cannot lie down or get up without help. Along with him, I have three other rams, two have gone blind with cataracts this year, and one has ruptured a tendon that supports his internal organs. So, I'm considering putting them down as well. It sucks. It's not my first time but I hate it every time and I cry every time, second guessing myself and the decision over and over. Could I have done more? Should I have done more? When is it right to let them go? Why don't they just die peacefully in their sleep? I wish. Ultimately, when they are humanely put down, I guess they do die peacefully in their sleep. My poor boy that has foundered will very likely be put down soon unless by some miracle there is marked improvement in the pain level. It just hurts him despite meds and therapy. I am so sorry for you and I feel your broken heart.

    If world trade stopped and I couldn’t buy a premade mineral block, how do I nourish my goats with minerals and nutrients like this? What food based sources can we provide in the event I need to, or prefer to?

    • @DelcifromALifeofHeritage
      @DelcifromALifeofHeritage 24 дні тому

      @@nerissametcalf6888 that is SUCH a good question! Your goats would need a very wide variety of nutrients. meaning they would need to go back to their natural way of living, which would be to graze a vast area of very diverse plants. And like the mountain goats, utilize the mineral deposits on rocks and drink from the natural springs. You would need to allow the week to die off or cull them and only keep the most resilient goats. The ones that can withstand a worm load better than the others and who can still produce healthy offspring given what they’re getting. If something like that(world trade stopping) happened, it would be a major change for both us and all of our livestock. For us up north, we hopefully would be able to still put up our hay to store for winter or we wouldn’t be able to own the livestock we do now.
